Introduction

With growing access, uses, and trends of Internet penetration in Nepal, legacy media have significantly lost public interest, trust, and engagement in recent days in Nepal. In this changed scenario, the media landscape has been dramatically shifted. Research also shows that the use of social media platforms has increased. In the meantime, social media tools are becoming a gateway for producing and sharing disinformation, misinformation, and misinformation, which has created a negative impact on the mindsets of ordinary citizens.

Media 4G Nepal believes that media (both traditional and digital) literacy is important to make citizens empowered and informed so that they can take the right information from more authentic and verified sources. If people are provided with critical thinking capacity, knowledge, and skills through customized capacity-building programs and products (content), society will be more responsible, and they will have the capacity to hold concerned government and non-government stakeholders accountable for their decisions and actions. M4G further realizes that traditional (legacy) media in society have a huge scope to collect, process and produce authentic and verified data that will be powerful for the public to combat disinformation or misinformation spread via the internet. Likewise, safe digital spaces protect citizen privacy. Hence, M4G, which was established in 2020, has been implementing various programs or projects in partnership with national and international organizations. M4G was established by young media and development enthusiasts who have decade-long experience in development, media and communication, outreach, digital safety and security, digital literacy, and ICT sectors.
